This Policy also covers the privacy practices for our customers who apply for and obtain products and services from us, such as, but not limited to, deposits, loans, investments,  and other such products and services that the Bank may offer from time to time.

2.0 Privacy Statement

Keeping your personal data secure is of the most importance to us. We pledge to protect and secure the information about you and to disclose only when there is a legal basis to do so. In addition, we collect the minimum information about you necessary for the purpose for which it is collected. Our data protection practices are designed to comply with the Data Protection Act, 2012 (Act 843).

3.0 Personal Information we collect

When you apply for or avail of any product or service that Advans offers or when you interact with our employees, authorized representatives, agents, and service providers, we collect your personal information. This may include, among others:

  • Personal Information including date of birth, contact & Address details, place of birth, next-of-kin details, financial information, signatures, educational information, among others
  • Images through CCTV installed in our premises to ensure safety of our clients, employees, and the general public.
  • Advans may also record your voice if you interact with our contact centers.
  • Advans may also collect sensitive data like Tax Identification numbers, political associations, Biometric information and to meet statutory requirements, and heath information where applicable for the purposes of insurances.
  • When you access our websites and other platforms, we may collect non-personal information such as that provided by your device which may include the IP address, operating system, browser type and version, and other machine identifiers.  We may track your location if you use our location-based content such as branch. We may likewise use web analytics tools, including those of third parties’, that use cookies to collect anonymous information and data generated in connection with your activities when you visit the pages and our network of websites.

3.1 Use of Personal Data

Your personal data would be used to deliver products and services for which you seek to establish banking, employee, and other relationships with Advans Ghana. Your data will be used to;

  • Process, administer, approve, or facilitate loan applications, account transactions.
  • Personal data of our employees are necessary for identification purposes, payment of salaries and legitimate interest of the staff.
  • Respond to queries, requests and complaints and improve how we interact with you.
  • Send you statements, billings, demand notices and other such documents necessary for continued use of our products and services.
  • Conduct studies and research for the purpose of reviewing, developing, and improving our products and services.
  • Perform profile analysis, analytics to understand needs, preferences, and market trends to be able to improve and recommend suitable products and services.
  • Reach out to you regarding products and services information, including offers, promotions, discounts, rewards; and for personalizing your experience with our various touchpoints such as branches, call center, telemarketing, email, messaging, and other channels.
  • Comply with our operational, audit, administrative, credit and risk management processes, policies and procedures, the terms and conditions governing our products, services, facilities and channels, legal and regulatory requirements of government regulators, judicial, supervisory bodies, tax authorities or courts of competent jurisdiction, as the same may be amended or supplemented from time to time.
  • Comply with applicable laws of the Ghana including BSDI Act 2016 (Act 930) , AML/CFT&P Act 2020 (Act 1044) and those of other jurisdictions including the United States Foreign Account Tax Compliance Act (FATCA)
  • Comply with legal and regulatory requirements such as submission of data to credit bureaus, responding to court orders and other instructions and requests from any local or foreign authorities including regulatory, governmental, tax and law enforcement authorities or other similar authorities.
  • Perform other such activities permitted by law or with your consent.

3.2 Sharing of your Personal Information

Your personal information may be shared with Advans groups and other subsidiaries within the group and other third parties under strict security and confidentiality. We may share your data with

  • Departments within Advans Ghana to provide the best service to clients, staff, and the stakeholders.
  • cloud service providers for support to address technical challenges
  • third parties, in aggregate/anonymous form, to support us in delivering service to you.
  • to comply with regulatory requirement such as court orders, and enforcing our rights as creditors, among others, our rights as creditor to customers availing of our loan or credit products, or such other applicable policies with respect to the services that we provide.
  • addressing fraud, security, or technical issues, to respond to an emergency or otherwise to protect the rights, property, or security of our customers or third parties.
  • to carry out all other purposes set out above.

Advans may transfer, store, and/or process your personal data outside Ghana.  In doing so, we will comply with the Data Protection Act (2012) in implementing rules and regulations.

4.0 Protecting your Information

To protect your personal data, Advans Ghana ensures adequate to safeguard your personal information in physical or electronic forms. We also train our employees to handle your information and restrict access to non-public personal information about you to those employees who need to know that information to provide products or services to you. Physical access and logical access controls are in place. Also, data sent to cloud service providers are encrypted to ensure they are not compromised.

5.0 Request to access, delete or amend your data

You can request access, delete, or amend your data by writing to us, though our branches or platform and proving your details. In undertaking any of these request, Advans Ghana would be guided by the Data Protection Act 2012.

5.1 Time for keeping for your information

The general principle is that Advans shall not retain your personal data longer that the purpose for which it was collected. You consent will be sought for additional processing and such other purposes that you may have consented to from time to time, remains in effect and until such time as it is no longer required nor necessary to keep your information for any other legal, regulatory or business purposes.
